The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all.

John the Baptist explains the difference between himself and Jesus.

John knew his earthly role like perhaps few people do. He was a true visionary and prophet, and could see with more clarity the difference. All of us are earthly. We belong to the earth and speak from an earthly perspective. We can’t help it. But I think it is important to be aware of it and recognize it, and to seek after God, and try to understand His heavenly perspective.
